SobApp was built so you do not have to trade your privacy for support. Almost everything stays on your device. The one exception is the chat with AI Mike, and what happens there is written out below.
What stays on your device
Your counters, the things you are tracking, your streaks and best records, your reset history, and which videos you have watched all live locally on your phone. They are not uploaded to us or to anyone else.
What the app fetches
To show milestone videos, quotes and help resources, the app reads content from our server (api.sobapp.com). These are requests for public content. They do not include your counters, streaks, or any personal history.
The chat with AI Mike
The Mike tab is the only place where anything leaves your phone. When you send a message, it goes to our server together with the last few messages of the conversation so the reply makes sense in context. Two services in the United States process that text. Voyage AI finds the answers Mike has given that sit closest to your question, and Anthropic writes the reply from them. Neither uses your messages to train its models. Both process the text only on our behalf, under data processing agreements that require them to protect it at least as well as we do, and transfers to the US rely on the EU standard contractual clauses. We store no message text at all: once the reply is sent, it is gone. The providers may hold it briefly to prevent abuse. The conversation itself is saved only on your phone and you can delete it whenever you want. No name or account is attached to it, only a random device number, and we keep nothing but a fingerprint of that. It caps how many messages you can send in a day, and we delete it after seven days. That is why we ask at the start not to put names, places, or anything identifying into your messages. The conversation does not need them. If a message looks like a crisis, your phone recognises it and sends nothing anywhere. You get numbers you can call instead.
No account, no profile
There is no sign-up, no login, and no user profile. We do not ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the app.
Location
If you choose to see support near you, the app uses your location only on your device to sort nearby resources. Your location is not sent to us or stored.
Notifications
Optional reminders are scheduled on your device. They never mention resets, and your counter names never appear on the lock screen.
Analytics and crash reports
We may collect basic, anonymous information about app stability to fix bugs and improve the app. It is never tied to your identity and never contains your sobriety data. From the Mike chat we keep only aggregate counts of how many replies worked and how many did not. They hold no message text, and no individual device can be traced in them.
Children
SobApp is intended for adults and is not directed at children.
